Endangered Sea Turtles Need Human Intervention
Our Efforts in Arroyo Seco, Mexico
Today, all eight species of sea turtles are on the endangered species list. Sea turtles, worldwide, face
major threats, including: destruction and alteration of nesting and foraging habitats; incidental capture in commercial and recreational fisheries; entanglement in marine debris and vessel strikes; industrial runoff pollution (which infiltrates their marine environment causing viral tumors); land and sea animals (such as raccoons, foxes, dogs, cats, crabs, and birds) and human poaching, which prey on sea turtle eggs, young hatchlings, meat from adults and shells.
